If you’re like us, you know that kids get cancer…other people’s kids. That would never happen to us, right? That’s what we thought, too. Then it became us. It was May 15, 2007…the day before Braeden’s 2nd birthday. That morning, we visited the neurologist, because Braeden was struggling with some motor skill issues, and an inability to walk without stumbling and falling. The last thing on our mind was cancer. Within days, however, we would learn that he had one of the most difficult forms of childhood cancer to treat; Stage 3, high risk neuroblastoma. 23 months later, after countless cycles of chemo, radiation, pokes, procedures, scans, blood draws, and a bone marrow transplant, just a month before his 4th birthday, Braeden quietly left our arms for heaven. No more pain. No more tears…for him, anyway.

Over the nearly two years we spent being cared for by the staff of Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital, we experienced the highest of highs, and the lowest of lows. And when we felt like we couldn’t take one more step, our incredible nurses and doctors were there to pick us up, and carry us. They laughed with us, and cried with us. They cared for us like we were family, and while they were unable to save Braeden’s life, in many ways, they saved ours. They gave us strength we needed during that journey, and even for the journey to come. Out of their compassion, and generosity, came a desire in us to give back. This was the birth of SuperBub’s Gift.

​Kids being treated for cancer are still kids, and even though they may be stuck in the hospital, tied to IV pumps and monitors, they still just want to be kids. The staff does an amazing job of keeping them active and engaged, but they can’t do it without our help. Through the generous gifts of people like you, we deliver hundreds of gift cards, gifts, toys, rolls of paper, arts and craft supplies, toiletries, electronics, clothing, and more to Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital. All these things help make a family’s stay at the hospital just a little bit better.

Over the past 10 years, we have been able to bless countless children and families through SuperBub’s Gift. Giving back to them what was given to us, all those years ago. We can’t do it without you, though! We are so grateful for your contribution to this important effort! From the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU for helping us make a real impact on the lives of so many families. You are truly one of SuperBub’s SuperHeroes!
